Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey Products Review

Welcome back to another product review. In this post, we are going to review a few of the Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey products.

The pomegranate and honey line launched late 2017, early 2018 (correct me if I’m wrong) but it only carried a few items. They recently relaunched the line and added a few more products. I went ahead a bought a few products from the line out of curiosity, and because I’ve used some of Mielle’s hair products before. Most importantly, I wanted to find out if these products were as good as they claim to be and low porosity hair friendly.

I purchased the pomegranate & honey moisturizing and detangling shampoo, the pomegranate & honey leave-in conditioner and the pomegranate & honey coil sculpting custard. I also threw in the Babasu Oil & Mint deep conditioner just because I love that stuff.

Let’s break down each product from the Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey line mentioned above.

Pomegranate & Honey Moisturizing and Detangling Shampoo.

This shampoo is said to be formulated for thick type 4 hair and claims to be moisturizing and detangling. It is supposed to lift dirt and oils from the scalp without stripping the hair of its natural moisture.

The shampoo does an excellent job at cleansing the hair. Once applied to the hair, it lathers right away and it leaves the hair with a squeaky clean feeling. I, however, would not describe this shampoo as “moisturizing and detangling”. My hair was left stripped out of all moisture to the point where I was afraid to stick a comb through it in the fear of damaging my hair.  This shampoo felt more like a clarifying shampoo than moisturizing.  Is it low porosity hair friendly? No. It contains at least 2 types of proteins that low porosity hair might not agree with.

Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner.

This leave-in is also formulated for type 4 hair. It claims to add penetrating moisture to every strand of hair and seals in that moisture for lasting hydration. Other claims are that the conditioner provides natural shine, prevent frizz and makes detangling easier without weighing down your hair.

After trying it out, I must say I agree with most of the description of this leave-in conditioner. Right off the bat, you can feel the slip that it provides, and once applied to the hair, detangling becomes a very easy process. It definitely adds shine. However, there is still a huge question mark on the frizz prevention claim. Overall, this is a pretty good leave-in conditioner and if you have low porosity hair, I believe your hair will enjoy it.

Pomegranate & Honey Coil Sculpting Custard.

I was pretty excited to try this product out. I thought it was different from the curl defining custard that they previously came out with which I had already tried a few times. But when I received the package, instead of coil sculpting custard, it read curl sculpting custard. I’m not sure if this was a mistake, or maybe it was reformulated. Anyways, I went ahead and tried it anyway.

The claims of this custard are that it moisturizes and conditions curly hair, provides deep definition and of course, it was made for Type 4 hair just like the rest of the line.

The custard did a good job defining my curls. I was very happy to see my curls clump as I was applying the products on to my hair. I chose to use it alongside the leave-in conditioner to do a wash and go. Surprisingly, I did not have to rake my fingers through my hair a whole lot to get the definition I was looking for. The most satisfying part is that I was able to complete my wash and go in 30 minutes, which is half the time it usually takes me with other products.

I  thought the result was pretty good, but that’s until I shook my head as per usual to remove excess product and also get a bit more definition. It got the opposite effect, my beautiful coils got disturbed.  My other issue with this custard is the fact that it leaves the hair feeling very sticky and greasy and weighed down. The gumminess does, however, go away once the hair is 100% dry. So you may be better off seating under a hooded dryer to speed up that process. The greasiness on the other hand remains.

Overall thoughts of the Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey Line

The shampoo is too drying, it strips the hair of all its moisture. It does lather a lot. I don’t recommend detangling the hair while shampooing with this product. You will regret it. It contains a good amount of protein making it not the best suitable shampoo for someone with low porosity hair.

The leave-in conditioner provides a good amount of slip making it easy to detangle the hair and is low porosity hair friendly.

The curling custard provides great definition. Once applied you can see your curls clumping right away, and they don’t require much manipulation. If you plan on using it, I would recommend not to shake out any excess product as it will disturb your curls.  It also leaves the hair with a gumminess until it’s fully dried. So again you may want to use a hooded dryer to speed up the process. Lastly, the greasiness does not go away which can be ok to some, but annoying to most.

All the products smell heavenly. If you are into fruity scented hair care products, you are guaranteed to love the scent of these babies!

I hope reading this review has helped you make an informed decision on the Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey line. If I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be the leave-in conditioner. I might give the custard another try just to see if I can get better results without shaking off any excess products at the end.

Keep in mind this review is from a person with low porosity hair, so my experiences with this line may be different from someone with normal or high porosity hair.
